Visiting Lecturer; Chair Of A Living Presence Symposium On Catholic Church DesignCua School Of Architecture 2007 - 2010Michael chaired the first ever interdisciplinary symposium on the design of Catholic Sacred Architecture co-sponsored by the Schools of Architecture of The Catholic University of America and The University of Notre Dame. 200 participants from the United States, Spain, Italy and Hungary attended over 50 paper session presentations, numerous keynote and special luncheon presentations, workshops and tours. The intent was to foster a deeper conversation about the development of Catholic church architecture given the diverging trends of traditionalism and modernism in the design community today.Michael has also taught or co-taught a number of courses in the CUA School of Architecture, on topics ranging from designing with Revit to church design. -
Practice Area Leader In Education / Design Director In ArchitectureGensler 2004 - 2008Michael maintained two roles, as Practice Area Leader in Education and as Design Director in Architecture. In the former role, Michael led the development of new projects for the Southeast region for the firm, and shared leadership of the practice area firm-wide with two others. In this role, Michael helped the firm win projects from a new 123,000 SF combined Academic / University building to a new 130,000 SF campus Hotel and Conference center, and numerous others, and led the design of many of the projects and client design presentations. As design director, Michael also helped win and designed commercial and mixed use projects including a 265,000 SF commercial office building, a 1M SF mixed use complex, and a 38 acre site developed for multiple office buildings and data center use in a secure setting. -
