Michael continues to spearhead many Institutional and Specialty Commercial projects, while engaging vigorously in the Residential practice of the firm. As a member of the Association for Preservation Technology, he combines design expertise with sensitivity to historic cultural resources. Michael leads the Church and School work of the firm, including Master Planning, design of new structures, and the integration of updated program and technology into historic facilities.

Current projects include a 120,000 SF office HQ redevelopment, a new 1,000 seat Catholic Church campus with School and Parish Center, and an Elementary & Middle School Master Plan. He also designs new homes and addition / renovation projects for the firm's Single Family Residential clients.

Co-Founder and President, subsequently sole Owner of firm, providing design services, for Institutional, Commercial, Ecclesial and Residential projects primarily in the Washington, DC Metro area. As of April 7, 2014, the majority of PAPA Inc.'s projects were acquired by Barnes Vanze Architects, Inc., and Michael, with his staff and resources, moved to Barnes Vanze to take a position there as Senior Architect. In this role, he will continue to lead the projects he brought on board, while working on new Barnes Vanze projects, and developing work in the institutional and commercial markets for the firm. PAPA Inc. is now effectively closed for business but Michael may be reached as desired through PAPA contact numbers and e-mail.

Michael chaired the first ever interdisciplinary symposium on the design of Catholic Sacred Architecture co-sponsored by the Schools of Architecture of The Catholic University of America and The University of Notre Dame. 200 participants from the United States, Spain, Italy and Hungary attended over 50 paper session presentations, numerous keynote and special luncheon presentations, workshops and tours. The intent was to foster a deeper conversation about the development of Catholic church architecture given the diverging trends of traditionalism and modernism in the design community today.Michael has also taught or co-taught a number of courses in the CUA School of Architecture, on topics ranging from designing with Revit to church design.

Michael maintained two roles, as Practice Area Leader in Education and as Design Director in Architecture. In the former role, Michael led the development of new projects for the Southeast region for the firm, and shared leadership of the practice area firm-wide with two others. In this role, Michael helped the firm win projects from a new 123,000 SF combined Academic / University building to a new 130,000 SF campus Hotel and Conference center, and numerous others, and led the design of many of the projects and client design presentations. As design director, Michael also helped win and designed commercial and mixed use projects including a 265,000 SF commercial office building, a 1M SF mixed use complex, and a 38 acre site developed for multiple office buildings and data center use in a secure setting.

Michael worked with the business development team to identify and win work for the firm, and was responsible for the design work of the Atlanta office, including numerous projects such as municipal libraries, academic projects, and commercial buildings. As a design director he met regularly with the design directors of other regional offices to help shape the design culture of the firm. He maintained his connections to the Aviation industry and a role as an expert on aviation security and especially the design of security screening checkpoints. He was also asked to lead the design of phase two of a competition entry for a new Government Center for Hong Kong, and worked out of the DC office for the three months duration of that effort.
