As a Welding Engineer, my role consists of maintaining welder continuity logs, managing WPQRs and WPTs, manage welder certification cards and recording/documenting employees qualifications within our software, processing DIs to closure, reviewing process plans, reviewing DJs, creating 4-blockers, work closely with D.E., M.E., Q.C., management, and improve the quality of the workmanship produced throughout the facility.

Worked as a Quality Engineer with an emphasis on Welding Engineering. As a Quality Engineer, I have learned to investigate, manage, and disposition non-conformance items and discrepancy items, work with Design Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to create a path forward for DIs, participate in RCCA meetings and CARs, and work with QC to investigate issues on site. Additionally, I learned about the FOD process and worked with another intern on creating FOD covers for critical components. As a Welding Engineer, I have learned numerous Military Standards and utilized them as references throughout the summer. Additionally, I learned and completed the process of qualifying a procedure and generating a WPS and WPT from the PQR. I worked with numerous welding operators on the shop floor, both at the Shipyard and at the land vehicle facility, in addition to helping at the training facility with new hires and the welding instructors. I started to develop a new welding process for production to utilize, which involved research and development of welding parameters for the material to be welded on site, and some mechanical testing of coupons welded by the new process.

After a year of being a structural steel welder, I became the lead fabricator for all structural steel that was fabricated. This included loading/unloading trailers, operating the beam drill line, tacking parts on columns / beams, welding the assemblies, and painting the steel. In addition to on-site fabrication, I was also tasked with traveling to job sites to assist in the erection of the structural steel, weld miscellaneous parts in the field, or fix any issues that occurred.
