I managed a group of 12 officers ranging from Assistant Chief to Sergeants, managed a $521,000 operational budget, and worked with a membership of 119. I have served in the positions of Deputy Chief and Assistant Chief, overseeing the organizations training and operations divisions. Master Firefighter
The NIH Fire Department responds to an average of 4000 calls for service every year, and is one of the primary emergency response assets that service the 300 acre campus which consists of over 3500 lab facilities, a clinical research center, and a variety of construction types. My duties include the operation of 3 pieces of fire apparatus that include a engine, quint and a hazmat unit as well as perform in the capacity of any of the positions on the units. I also provide patient care on a BLS transport unit making treatment and transport decisions based on the needs of the patient. In the absents of a officer I have stepped up as an acting captain and ensured that tasks were completed in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining crew integrity. In these cases I am also usually responsible for documenting information about the incident in the station reporting system which maintains records for future use. I currently am involved in managing the EMS program for the department which has afforded me the opportunity to recently serve as the representative for the National Medical Response Team’s Pandemic Flu Response Committee. I also work to track the fire hose data for the department to ensure that it is tested and accounted for within the station.

During my tenure I was responsible for providing conflict resolution in labor management issues when requested by a union member. I worked with a committee to update the Local’s bylaws and develop its first financial plan. Convinced the membership to join the Professional Firefighter of Maryland and attended many events sponsored by the organization to improve working conditions of firefighters throughout the state.
