Undertook research projects aimed at understanding the role of montane regions in the evolution of African and South American tropical regions during the past 5 million years. This information was used to aid in the design of conservation regions.

The principle research efforts were aimed at understanding the population dynamics of the grey wolf through analysing genetic patterns of wolf packs across the US and Canada.
