I am an experienced programmer that continues to appreciate the art and craft of computer programming. Having an ability to understand code, systems, issues and solutions as part of a process of abstraction over the years has enabled me to quickly ascertain what needs to be fixed and how to do that in an efficient way, whether that solution involved 1 person or a 150 person team. I have developed a strong reputation among the customers I have worked with a sense of radical customer support.I worked for IBM mainly on VTAM and TCP/IP in many capacities with a short stint leading a group that implemented an operating independent systems layer for use on various workstation platforms. At SAS Institute and Dignus, LLC, I worked on C & C++ compiler and runtime development and at SoftBase Systems on DB2 tools development, providing an internal interface allowing their products to monitor all DB2 use without any modification to applications or their JCL and a flexible COBOL & PL/I pre-compiler. In my personal time I have developed a popular website (http://drivingnews.us), writing parts in PHP & Javascript and personal applications written in RunRev/LiveCode and Objective C. Each of these positions used different change control methodologies, from IBM proprietary technologies to RCS and SVN.Involved in many areas of software development, from being in a department dedicated to reading z/OS dumps, to implementation of templates for C++, design of the TCP/IP z/OS rewrite, being a chief programmer of a 150 developer team, I’ve experienced most aspects of software development. Along the way, I proposed new (now implemented) hardware architecture facilities for z/Architecture (PLO Instruction & MIDAWs), did groundbreaking work on symmetric-multi-processor performance, as well as development for and on AIX, HP/UX, Linux and Mac OS.Throughout my career I’ve continued to make significant, innovative contributions to what have seemed, at times, to be intractable problems.
