Our work focused broadly on C-C bond forming reactions enabled by transition metal catalysts. Of particular interest were reductive cross coupling reactions that use readily available unsaturated.

Worked with a team of scientists investigating paleoclimate reconstruction using a multi-proxy approach on an Arabian Sea sediment core. Primarily extracted, isolated, and functionalized lipids from the sediment core and then analyzed them by GC-FID and GC-MS.

Worked as an analytical chemist on a multidisciplinary team of scientists studying aquatic toxicology. Specific areas of study were the development of Adverse Outcome Pathways (AOPs) and the development of methods for identifying and assessing Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs). Worked on method development for analyzing a variety of compounds by HPLC.

Joined a diverse team of researchers investigating the global carbon cycle. The line of inquiry centered on the molecular mechanisms at play in phytoplankton-virus interactions and the resulting impacts on dissolved organic carbon, particular organic and inorganic carbon, and dimethylsulfide. Responsibilities included working in a clean room isolating.

Investigated the replacement of calcium by other elements in coral skeletons and if there was a correlation with overall fitness. Collected coral samples while SCUBA diving with a team. Developed protocols for preparation and analysis of samples by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy.

Spent the summer assisting with and learning about the development of monoclonal antibodies. Performed several biological techniques, including ELISAs to assess antibody titers, E. coli transfections, B cell isolation and activation, and cell culture.
