As Director of Technology, I focus on advancing Visma Idella's cloud and future technology initiatives.I oversee technology strategy and innovation across our product lines, by continuous surveillance and evaluation of technology trends. I lead the Architecture & Technology team at Visma Idella, which includes Enterprise, Domain, Software and Cloud architecture, to ensure alignment with our strategic objectives and industry standards.

As Chief Software Architect at Visma Idella, I led software development advancements and directed the Architecture Team, reporting to the Product Development Director. I chaired the Architecture Board, aligning our architecture principles with strategic objectives. My key project was VIPS Pensions as a Service, a pioneering comprehensive, Azure-based SaaS for pension administration under the Wet Toekomst Pensioenen (WTP), featuring microservice and event-driven architecture.Beyond VIPS Pensions, I actively supported the development of other essential product lines, including VIPS Disbursements, Benefits solutions for APPA and (S)PAWW, the Futurama and eBenefits platforms, and our retail investment products. I also spearheaded the AI Adoption Program, empowering over 300 employees to work and develop software with Generative AI training.My role extended across Product Development, leading 9 teams over 3 countries and more than 100 developers. I facilitated collaboration with enterprise, technical, and domain architects in the financial and pension sectors, and contributed to the Visma Product Development Architecture Board to ensure a cohesive architectural approach across Visma companies.I authored and delivered BPMN 2.0 trainings to refine our software design and delivery methods, and improve the effectiveness of our BPO organizations. Additionally, I supported compliance for ISO & ISAE certifications, and stringent audits including those from "De Nederlandse Bank", customer audits, and specific IT Management, Privacy, and Security related audits.My hands-on contributions included architecting new microservices for the VIPS platform and optimizing our cloud infrastructure. I served as a sparring partner for the Service Architects, Security Engineers, and Infrastructure Engineers in the development teams, and helped define new ALM and roadmap management methods via Azure DevOps and Jira.

As Lead Software Architect at Visma Idella, my responsibilities included overseeing the architectural direction and ensuring alignment with the company's strategic goals, particularly as chair of the Visma Idella Architecture Board.A key project under my leadership was starting the development of VIPS Pensions as a Service, an Azure-based, multi-tenant solution for pension administration compliant with the WTP (Wet Toekomst Pensioenen). This solution was designed with a microservice and event-driven architecture, following an API-first approach, based on standardized calculation rules.I provided architectural and technical leadership for 7 software dev teams across in 3 countries, involving over 70 developers, and played a role in both pre-sales and after-sales engagements with our clients in the financial and pension sectors. I also supported business operations in navigating compliance and audit processes, including ISO and ISAE certifications, and other IT, privacy and security assessments.I advocated for the adoption of modern software practices to improve key operational metrics. Additionally, I was nominated and selected for the Visma Management Academy program to further develop leadership skills. I also supported the organization in various M&A projects by performing technical due diligence, and facilitated the expansion of our development capabilities by helping set up our nearshoring teams in Slovakia and Lithuania.Besides this, I enjoyed authoring and delivering training sessions on RESTful API design, promoting an API-first mindset among development teams, and providing various knowledge-sharing sessions. This educational work, coupled with agile coaching through the company's Agile Guild, underscored my commitment to fostering skill development and agile practices within the organization.

In my role as Enterprise Architect at (Visma) Idella, I played a pivotal role in shaping the organization's architectural landscape and enhancing the quality of our software development processes and products. Reporting directly to the CTO and the company owner before Visma's acquisition, I was instrumental in establishing the Security & Architecture Board. I defined architectural principles and created a comprehensive framework for architecture practices. This groundwork laid the foundations for developing standards and guidelines across software development, covering RESTful API design, Azure standards, security practices, and overall software development guidelines.Following Idella's integration into Visma, I actively facilitated the merger with Visma Raet's Pensions & Benefits department. This critical move resulted in the formation of Visma Idella and involved strategic efforts to reorient the organization towards a product-focused approach, thereby improving our agility and responsiveness to market needs.I contributed significantly to designing RESTful APIs for our retail investment products, enhancing interoperability and system integration capabilities. Additionally, my involvement in solution architecture led to important enhancements in our pension software suite.I also created and delivered internal training programs to improve secure web development practices and increase security awareness among developers. By introducing microservice and event-driven architecture concepts, I further advanced our technical capabilities to meet modern software challenges. Moreover, I initiated the formation of various guilds within the development organization, including those focused on Agile methodologies, development practices, and testing strategies.

Starting my journey at Idella as a Solution Architect, I specialized in software development with a focus on SharePoint / Office 365 integration. My initial contributions involved enhancing our software products with SharePoint functionalities for document and records management, search capabilities, and managing complex workflows. This integration extended to the Learning Management Systems (LMS) provided by a specialized division of the company at the time. As an expert in SharePoint/BPOS and later Office 365, I utilized these platforms to boost business productivity internally. Developing various solutions with this tech stack, I played a key role in optimizing operational workflows and enhancing collaborative efforts across the organization.I played a significant role in facilitating the company's transition from a traditional waterfall and project-oriented approach to adopting Agile methodologies. Drawing from my passion and prior experience in Agile, I authored and delivered comprehensive training on Agile practices, such as Scrum and Kanban, to both internal teams and our customers. This effort significantly transformed our software development culture, fostering agility and collaborative teamwork.Following this transition, my role evolved to encompass a broader scope in solution architecture for software development, with a focus on our financial products suite. I was responsible for the technical due diligence for Idella's acquisition of Innovact, facilitating the integration of pension software into our Idella Financial Suite. I became MT member and manager for the "specialists team", comprising of our tech leads in development, BI and BPM.In this capacity, I worked closely with development teams within the financial suite, serving as a solution architect, scrum master, and product owner. I continued to promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement, offering internal training on various business and technology related subjects.

In 2006, my role at Orangehill evolved into that of a Solution Architect. I embraced Scrum and XP in 2008, which profoundly influenced my approach to project management and software development. I led the architecture and product ownership of two pivotal internal products: SoCard, a social mapping tool for GGD, and a newly developed CMS, contributing to the company's growth and the establishment of a development team in Pune, India. My efforts during this time were crucial in advancing Orangehill's software development practices, particularly through the implementation of Team Foundation Server for more efficient and automated project management processes. Additionally, my growing interest in SharePoint and business productivity solutions allowed me to support our clients effectively and drive the development of platform-based solutions.

During my initial years at Orangehill from 2003 to 2006, I served as a web developer, focusing on crafting websites and web applications with ASP and later transitioning to ASP.NET. My work covered a broad range of sectors, including healthcare (GGD / GHOR), local government, and various organizations across the non-profit and for-profit spectrum. This period was foundational, offering me a diverse set of development experiences and instilling a solid understanding of web technologies. My interest in broader aspects of software development began to emerge, setting the stage for my transition into roles that emphasized analysis, requirements engineering, and solution architecture.
