Harry W. Schwartz Bookshops was an independent bookseller with four Milwaukee-area bookstores that closed in 2009. For nearly 20 years I was a member of the company's leadership team and led all aspects of the marketing.Instrumental in increasing revenue through marketing activities:- Developed and implemented strategic marketing plan, optimizing budget for greatest impact.- Hired and collaborated with staff, including graphic designer and writer, to carry out marketing plan. Assisted in their professional development.- Produced monthly print newsletter delivered to 30,000 subscribers. When the technology became available used database management to save costs by targeting the 15,000 engaged shoppers. Added weekly e-Newsletter when the service became available.- Created Schwartz Gives Back program, building a network of 30 local nonprofits who received $460,000 in donations while strengthening customer loyalty. Enhanced program with a customer reward component, resulting in an immediate 20% increase in participation.- Grew Live at Schwartz from less than 40 events per year to over 325 annually. Events ranged from cozy in-store readings to innovative, large-scale ticketed author appearances at Alverno College, which increased sales with a higher gross profit.
