I am responsible for training of junior staff in safe operation of… Show more As Environment Officer, I primarily supervise and complete Environmental Monitoring Program activities on my shift, with emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance. This includes scheduling of EMP sampling programs, data management, trouble shooting, sample shipping, data entry, and primary QAQC. I supervise daily work planning, training, and performance planning/review of technicians and summer students on my shift. I am responsible for training of junior staff in safe operation of boats, ATVs, snowmobiles, and field sampling gear. My role includes project and contractor management duties such as developing scope of work, risk assessment, budget tracking, and site contact duties.My responsibilities also include completion of daily, weekly and monthly inspection programs, ensuring regulatory compliance and conformance to Cameco standards. I work cooperatively with site departments and projects groups, using my knowledge of policies, procedures and regulations to ensure regulatory compliance, environmental protection and waste management requirements are met.My reporting duties include assigned sections of quarterly or annual reports and other regulatory or internal submissions.I lead response to spill and environmental emergency events, including Visual Site Assessment and reporting as a ministry designated Qualified Person. I also maintain active membership on the Rabbit Lake Emergency Response and Mine Rescue Teams. Other responsibilities include basic purchasing and invoicing payment related to department operations and equipment. I oversee maintenance and calibration of field equipment and sampling instruments. I provide Environmental Management System training to staff and long term contractors in support of Cameco's ISO 14001 certification. I also develop and supervise wildlife hazing and waterfowl monitoring programs. This includes oversight of wildlife hazing, live trapping, and relocation of problem animals. Show less

I continued to develop my skills in fish habitat and fish community assessments, spawning surveys, benthic invertebrate, water quality, vegetation chemistry, and sediment sampling. I also expanded my abilities by completing several aerial ungulate surveys and wildlife track count surveys, building on previous experience. In my time at CanNorth I gained knowledge and valuable experience in completing baseline environmental studies and environmental monitoring, including community based environmental monitoring programs.
