Worked in a DevOps/cloud engineering capacity for the IT organization within Global Retail Markets US- Managed Docker environments and underlying AWS infrastructure- Maintained the underlying infrastructure as code through tools like Cloud Formation Templates, Chef Cookbooks, and Ansible- Worked on integrations between CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins and the Docker environments- Participated in a 24/7 on-call rotation for production support as well as providing support to our customers through a Jira service desk- Developed an Nginx based routing-layer that enabled a multi-cluster Docker swarm platform for our customers while allowing us to do blue/green cluster upgrades with no down-timeCloud-based Kafka solution in AWS:In addition to the work I did with Docker, I partnered with another developer to build a cloud-based Kafka solution in AWS that could be offered to developers as a product. The end-result of this work was a set of Cloud Formation Templates that when deployed, built out a multi-node Kafka/ZooKeeper cluster ontop of EC2 instances. We also enabled some opensource Kafka management tools from Confluent. I designed and built out a series of lambdas in AWS for purpose of backing up and restoring topic/message data from the Kafka brokers. Once completed, this solution was adopted by an app-dev team in GRMUS who wanted a cloud-based Kafka solution for an application they were building that would handle text-message conversations related to an insurance claim.

Working at Liberty Mutual in their TechStart program for developing entry-level IT talentI spent five months working on a project with other new hires in USCM DevOps. Tasked with building a reporting tool for our CI/CD pipeline called Fusion, I worked with my team to build out an "eventing engine" with Apache Kafka and a React-based front end. The end goal was to have a dashboard for app teams to be able to see where their app was in the pipeline and DevOps folks could get a "health check" on the pipeline and its components. -Engineered the Jenkins groovy code to send events to Kafka at various stages in a pipeline-Deployed Kafka, Zookeeper, and node.js implementations of a Kafka producer and consumer to docker-Built a persistent storage solution with MongoDB and a node.js web-service to store and attempt to re-send pipeline events if our Kafka implementation went down.It was a great opportunity to learn about DevOps architecture and become comfortable with tools like Jenkins, Docker, and Kafka.

I was a summer intern, working with the database team in the application tech services (DevOps) department of Liberty's U.S. Consumer Market.Cleaned up and reorganized our team's SharePoint site Restored backups of production SQL Server databases into test environments to give testers "production-like" data Became familiar with mainframe databases running in DB2 for z/OS, learning to:-navigate TSO panels and use ISPF -use BMC tools for DB2 such as Change/Catalog Manager -create worklists and generate JCL for creating/modifying database objects -write jobs to reorg tables/tablespaces -create indexes/turn on clustering -run scripts that check for production vs. test discrepancies in indexing -schedule jobs to run off-hours Shadowed the team's mid-range DBAs, gaining insight on DB2 for LUW and Microsoft SQL Server Participated in team meetings as well as meetings with the data architects about database design/model changes and new projects
