About Pat Nelson
Ever since I wrote a story in grade school, I've enjoyed the game of arranging words on paper (or now, a computer screen). I am a nonfiction writer in various categories. My first book, "You ... the Credit Union Member," was a guide to help members get the most out of their credit unions at a time when the lines between banks and credit unions had not yet become as blurred as they are today. I wrote short stories for my own enjoyment and newspaper columns for "The Daily News" and "The Valley Bugler," Longview, WA, and "The Lewis River News," Woodland, WA. I co-created two humorous anthologies for Publishing Syndicate, whose owners co-created "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books for 10 years. I co-created "Not Your Mother's Book on Being a Parent" and "Not Your Mother's Book on Working for a Living," and I proofread the 11 books in the "Not Your Mother's Book series." The most difficult, time-consuming, and rewarding project of all is my current book, "Open Window: the Lake Julia TB Sanatorium, a Community Created by Tuberculosis." I worked on this project off and on for 15 years and published it ion March 24, 2020, World TB Day. By then, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) were overwhelmed with a new disease, Covid-19. "Open Window" is available at Amazon.com as an eBook or paperback (283 pages, 8" x 10"), and during its first two weeks, it was a #1 New Release in three categories. eBook: https://amzn.to/2UxAtR3paperback: https://amzn.to/2WLjnSs

Book Author
Co-Creator, Editor, Proofreader, And Contributor
I co-created and edited two anthologies for Publishing Syndicate: "Not Your Mother's Book ... On Being a Parent" and "Not Your Mother's Book ... On Working for a Living." I proofread all 11` "Not Your Mother's Books" and other books for Publishing Syndicate, and I contributed stories to the 11 books i the series.
Anthology Co-Creator
I've just published "Open Window: The Lake Julia TB Sanatorium, a Community Created by Tuberculosis." My parents met while working at this TB Sanatorium, and I Iived on the sanatorium's grounds at the San Dairy when I was a child. This inside look at life in a tuberculosis sanatorium includes stories that sound eerily familiar in this time of Covid-19. The sanatorium era, too, was a time of isolation, although many of those who were ill went away to live in sanatoriums where some stayed for years and many died. Those who chose to isolate at home sometimes infected their family members too. Prior to 1943, there was no cure for TB, just as we do not yet have a cure for Covid-19. Tuberculosis is caused by a bacterium and Covid-19 is caused by a virus. Both can be spread by droplets of saliva through coughing, sneezing, talking, or spitting, and both are more likely to spread when large groups gather. Both attack all ages, both male and female, the rich and the poor, and commonly attack the lungs. We now learn more daily about COVID-19 while we continue to learn about tuberculosis as it changes to more extreme forms of the disease.
