I oversee a team of editors responsible for curating the largest online community of American Studies scholars, historians, artists and authors, responsible for maintaining editorial standards and developing content for the Network's 6000+ subscribers. I generate online content by soliciting bloggers, book reviews, running themed discussions, and maintain a stream of valuable informative posts for the academics in the crowd. I manage H-AMSTDY's social media presence as well.My team is currently developing collaborative online publications with traditional academic journals to bring to academic publishing the range of tools available online. I do a similar a project at H-Material-Culture; I love coming up with new ideas, but when I know I have a good one that moves my field forward I'm equally happy to re-use it where applicable.

As VP for Networks at H-NET I oversee the transition of H-NET's several hundred outdated list serves to our new, dynamic website format ("the Commons"). I evaluate Networks' specific needs and meet them. I recruit new editors, assist editors in developing content germane to their audience, and create a social networking and marketing plan to boost their subscriber base. I initiate new online publications and evaluate proposals for new H-NET Networks and foster these ideas to fruition. I am currently drafting H-Net's Strategic Plan for the next five years.

I created and taught an undergrad course called Children's Literacies. Students examined historical definitions and uses of literacy and what happens when multi-modal and interactive texts, hand-held reading devices, iPhone Apps, and social networking are added to the definition of literacy. Course experience culminated in an Alternate Reality Game--a multi-platform form of story telling that utilized Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, Academia.edu, email and text messages working together to tell a comprehensive story.I revised this course for online instruction in Fall 2016. The content was ideally suited to creating a highly interactive online course.I also created and taught a course called Children at Christmas, a multi-media examination of how children participate in the celebration and creation of Christmas in books, movies, TV shows, music, and trips to the Mall.

I was part of a team that collaboratively designed and carried out evaluations of educational programming. I was responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting qualitative and quantitative data using various data tools (Excell, Dedoose, NVivo). We made extensive use of web surveys to amass large data sets. I specialized in creating data visualizations beyond the usual charts and graphs for inclusion in written reports and PowerPoint presentations.

As Editor of H-Material Culture, I built the internal list serve of a small professional association into the largest online community of Material Culture scholars, preservationists, museum professionals, archivists, and aficionados of material culture. I design and implement new web features and recruit new team members to generate user content and excitement in the field. I solicit bloggers, book reviews, run themed discussions, and maintain a stream of informative posts for the academics in the crowd. I am currently using Storify to create conference reports for the site, I manage H-Material Culture's social media presence, and am organizing a blogging carnival.Currently, we are developing collaborative online publications with traditional academic journals to bring academic publishing the range of tools available in online publishing. We will provide multi-media content and discussion to supplement journal articles, giving authors the opportunity to display the material culture they write about in images and video.
