I have had a wide range of business and personal experience, particularly in the horticulture industry but also in other businesses/industries during my career. From beginning in the Hawkes Bay Pipfruit sector doing orchard work and harvesting, to working in the publishing and design industry in Auckland, and finally ending up back in the horticulture industry in Whangarei where we have created a multi-generational diversified horticultural business based around growing, packing and selling blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, kiwifruit and berryfruit breeding. I have also co-founded a horticultural software business - Dataphyll Ltd - which the team have grown to supply services to multiple sectors in the New Zealand horticulture industry.Our family includes myself, my wife Rebecca, son Austin and daughter Eloise, and we work closely with my parents Dermott & Linzi. Our family business Onyx Capital Limited owns and run a Kiwifruit and Berryfruit orchard in Maungatapere, and owns or is invested in: - Maungatapere Packing Ltd, a blueberry packing and kiwifruit pollen milling business. - Maungatapere Berries Ltd, a berryfruit marketing and branding business. - Maungatapere Berries Breeding Ltd, a berryfruit breeding business - Dataphyll Ltd, a innovative horticultural technology and software business.I am personally focused on growing the level of production and quality in the Northland horticultural sector, along with continuing to improve the productivity and employment opportunities for local Northland workers.Finally, I used to compete both nationally and internationally in rallying as both a driver and co-driver (although I do prefer driving!), and then for several years was a commentator for the New Zealand national championship airing on CRC Speedsport for TV3, but have taken a step back from the sport to spend more time with my family.
