Pennsylvania has abundant natural resources. We have incredible landscapes that are widely admired in all seasons. We have beautiful waterways that give us water to drink, fish to eat, and places to relax. We have incredible mountains and valleys, plentiful sunny days, delightful breezes, and access to fuel. It has been my job for more than 20 years to protect all of those things for ourselves and our families.I believe that we have all the tools and technology we need to have a thriving environment and economy here in Pennsylvania. What we lack is the will. For far too long, our environment has suffered because of a resistance to change and a fear of the unknown. We have put our health, wellness, and well-being behind some people’s need to keep things as they were, pollution and all. What we need to do - the only way to change will - is to make environmental issues visual and visceral. People believe in what they can see: the visual. They act on what they feel: the visceral. As the president of PennFuture, I see this as my primary job. As a government official, I could make policy. But now, I have the opportunity to change minds. As an improv performer, I know creating anything great requires working as a team. We must build on each other’s ideas, experiences, and insights. I am committed to partnering with people, grassroots groups, and nonprofit organizations that care about protecting our environment. We must do this with a focus on justice, equity, and inclusion, in order to be effective. Since the founding of our country, Pennsylvanians have been leaders, innovators, and great thinkers. It is time for us once again to be all those things as we create a future for Pennsylvania that is based on a clean energy economy.
