You might look at my career path and think what the..? I had a passion for science and the environment from a young age. My parents decision to move to Australia in 1991 derailed my plans to further my skills beyond college. I started out utilising my typing skills as an office clerk to support myself in NZ. Thanks to the introduction of student loans, I was able to go to Auckland Polytech part time doing a certificate in science. This at least got me work in a field I enjoyed, working in a laboratory. Soon after moving to Hamilton then being made redundant, I went to The Openpolytech, which allowed me to get a diploma in environmental studies from home. While working at Hamilton City Council we had an aging LIMS system which I soon learned how to keep alive by accessing the DBMS and getting into the reporting code. As a result I decided to go back to The Openpolytech and learn about computing. I continued one paper at a time while working at AgResearch and eventually completed a Diploma in IT. It was then a natural progression from Agricultural research to a company that specialises in Agricultural Software.They say the average person has 5 careers in their life, I'm now onto my 5th, will it be my last? Who knows.
