About Paul Cassidy
I am a Senior Scientific Editor in the Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. I specialize in editing extramural grant applications and manuscripts to improve clarity, emphasize significance and innovation, and maximize chances of funding or publication success.Previously, I was a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. My research background includes genetics and translational medicine, mainly within the context of both endothelial biology and ocular disorders. My postdoctoral research focused on studying the nicotinamide salvage pathway in macrophages and its role in immune function and retinal disease. I completed my Ph.D. in 2017 in the Ocular Genetics Unit at the Smurfit Institute of Genetics, Trinity College Dublin. I studied the role of tight-junction proteins in controlling the outflow of aqueous humor in glaucoma and developed a novel RNA-interference based approach to treating the disease. I graduated from TCD in 2013 with a first class honours degree in Genetics.
