Managing both the Marketing & Communications and Engagement teams, I ensure that the Scottish Wildlife Trust has a strong organisational identity, a high public profile and positive engagement with a broad range of audiences.Having written the Trust's new Engagement Strategy to 2030, I am responsible for overseeing its successful delivery. I am also the managing editor for the Trust’s magazine, Scottish Wildlife, and provide strategic support to project communications and engagement staff across the Trust.

I am responsible for the strategic development and operational delivery of a diverse range of marketing and communications outputs for Scotland’s leading nature conservation organisation. Operational activities include magazine editing and production, website management, campaign delivery, partnership project communications and management of external agencies. I have line management responsibility for two staff in the Marketing and Communications team and the Communications and Engagement Officer for the Saving Scotland's Red Squirrels project. I sit on the Steering Group for Scottish Wildcat Action, the Board for Saving Scotland's Red Squirrels and the Working Group for Scottish Beavers, as well as the Trust's Greening Forum and GDPR Steering Group.

Solely responsible for leading and developing all communications activity at the Galapagos Conservation Trust to raise awareness of the organisation and the Galapagos Islands. This was achieved in part through content managing the organisation's website, writing monthly e-newsletters, updating the organisations social media platforms and managing the production of a biannual magazine. Reporting directly to the organisation's CEO, I was also responsible for: writing and promoting appeals; creating bespoke event material; maintaining press relationships; managing the design and print of all correspondence; strengthening the organisations brand; and writing articles for external publications.

As a part time volunteer for this small UK conservation charity I worked closely with the organisations Project Manager. Utilising my science background and my communication skills, I assisted by writing project proposals, researching and developing content for an educational website, and inputting member-survey data. I also assisted with event preparation and delivery, membership and merchandise processing, and other general administrative duties.

I completed a fourth month contract with this British conservation NGO, working within a small expedition team in a remote location in the Philippines. My principal role was to teach groups of volunteers the fortnight-long Science Development Programme (SDP). This involved giving a series of lectures and scientific training dives covering the following subjects: coral reef ecology; Cnidarian taxonomy; survey techniques; and identification of Indo-Pacific coral reef organisms. After successfully completion of SDP, I was responsible for organising volunteers into survey teams, coordinating and conducting data-collection dives, ensuring dive safety and data-collection standards were being maintained, and keeping the survey database current. My other responsibilities included providing head office with fortnightly progress reports and recent survey data, managing the expedition bar, and helping with the general maintenance and upkeep of the expedition base.

On completion of my PADI Divemaster qualification I began working as a Divemaster in a five-star resort dive shop. My responsibilities included guiding certified divers on dives around the local reefs, ensuring and encouraging that safe diving practices were adhered to, selecting dive sites appropriate for clients’ experience levels, teaching refresher courses, and gear maintenance (including Scubapro MK2 servicing).

During my field period I observed and recorded interactions between swimmers and whale sharks and later quantified these interactions for analysis. I conducted a thorough evaluation of a dataset collected over the previous 3 ½ years and designed a new long-term monitoring strategy for whale shark tourism which has since been adopted in Mozambique.Data collection was conducted in the small coastal town of Tofo in Mozambique aboard a commercial dive vessel. I was responsible for giving pre-trip briefings to clients highlighting the regional protocols associated with interacting with whale sharks. I also gave several of the weekly whale shark lectures at the lodge in which the research station is situated.

As a member of the WA Shark and Ray Tagging Research Team, I worked on several projects funded by the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS), involving capture-mark-release studies and acoustic monitoring of elasmobranchs.Due to the nature of the focal species within this project, communication and team work were of paramount importance in order to avoid injury. I learnt a number of skills during this project including several different methods of elasmobranch capture and both external and internal acoustic tagging techniques.

A voluntary position during which I worked on several PhD projects; one of which focused on the population ecology of elasmobranchs in Hervey Bay, the other on the history of the coral reefs in Moreton Bay.I learnt skills in several areas of science during these projects, from elasmobranch survey methodology to laboratory techniques for marine paleoecology.
