The Wellcome Trust Sanger HPC team is responsible for both running and developing the scientific compute platforms that enables the ground breaking bio-informatics research that is taking place at Sanger today.The Sanger high performance computing center has housed LSF based clusters for more than 15 years. Today this infrastructure exceeds 20,000 cores, ~13PB Lustre, 16PB iRODS and remains a core component of our high throughput workflows.The recent development and installation of a private cloud, by our team, has added another 12000 vCPU's, 4.5PB usable Ceph, S3 and cinder object storage. This implementation is based around 100GbE software defined infrastructure, RedHat Openstack and RedHat CloudForms. Our environment provides researcher with full access to the OpenStacks core API's and Horizon but also to a service portal for those who just need to get things done ! This flexible compute platform is an essential enabler for today's collaborative and emerging computation challenges.Our highly skilled and motivated team of 7 is able to manage this complex and demanding mixture of infrastructure whilst providing tier 3 support to our internal customers and their collaborators through: Agile workflows, continuous integration, continuous deployment, Hashicorp tools, Cfengine, Ansible, gitflow, gitlab and local code automation.
