In 2000, Nucoda was a technology start-up consisting entirely of ex-Avid software developers sub-contracted to Sony Corporation, developing a 'next generation' film and video compositing and finishing solution, Socratto. In 2001 Sony requested Nucoda employ a mutually satisfactory director with start-up experience to report directly to Japan. Responsibilities included: business development, marketing and sales in EMEA, coaching and assisting sales and marketing in Japan and USA.In 2002, Sony cancelled the Socratto project without notice. The role then became one of advisor, mentor, change manager and business planner, analysing opportunities and devising a completely new company strategy with the technical founders. The outcome was to fulfill the requirement for cost-effective high-end film finishing (DI) solutions. Within 1 year 3 products were shipping, and after 2 years Nucoda had won a number product awards and sales to 45 internationally prestigious film facilities with 55 installations. Nucoda was purchased by Digital Vision (DV.SE) early in 2005.
