I have been working in a software development role in the School of Engineering with Dr A. Aggarwal, in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania. My primary responsibility in this role is the design and creation of software to be used by clinicians and researchers, to give new insight into the function and strain of organ tissue by transforming scan data into quantitative, visual and usable analysis. Specifically, I have developed software to work in tandem with existing software (ITK-Snap), which adds to a pipeline from 4D ultrasounds to analysis of essential biomechanical parameters and physical artefacts. This position has afforded me the opportunity to further my software development toolkit and my skills with Python, XML and C++, with a focus on developing a product that is accessible to a range of interests and expertise. It is important in my current role to make sure that results are general enough to be applied to a range uses. The latter half of this work has been funded by a fellowship that I was awarded which gave me the opportunity to be entirely self motivated and allows me to work on further developing the capabilities of the software. My role as a research associate has involved an element of teaching undergraduates, which has allowed me to hone my communication skills.
