Ecological Building SystemsEcological Building Systems has been at the forefront of airtight and windtight building products and natural insulations for nearly a decade, the Irish office is based in Athboy in County Meath and the UK office in Carlisle in Cumbria. The company has developed a complete range of environmental building solutions to meet the needs of energy efficient, low carbon builders. The range includes pro clima for airtightness and windtightness, GUTEX soft boards, Calsitherm climate board, Thermo-Hemp insulation and many more.Ecological Building Systems is about supporting and supplying the Irish and UK market with both the technical know how and quality tried and tested products for the sustainable building industry.I give technical support where I can, always with the emphasis on compatibility, suitability, thermal efficiency and sustainability of building materials. I present CPD's to Architectural practices, County Councils and other common interest groups. I have done two series of talks over two years organised by the Irish Georgian Society for owners and those involved with upgrading and maintenance of 'protected structures', county by county, entitled 'Energy efficiency in historic houses and the use of appropriate materials'. I gave a series of talks over two consecutive years in the mid 2000's to members of Homebond, with the purpose of introducing 'air tightness in construction' as part of an effort to improve awareness of new standards being introduced in Building Regulations. Along with the need for 'air tightness' in new build and refurbishment projects, we tend to emphasise the importance of using 'breathable' or vapour diffusion open materials in circumstances where condensation or mould growth could become an issue. Natural insulations such as hemp, cellulose, wood fibre and fleece are 'hygroscopic' (can hold and release moisture) and tend to have a much higher thermal mass, are more efficient, longer lasting and healthier.
