From graduate degrees and research projects to coastal community events, ecological surveys, GIS mapping, animal care, and sustainable jewellery crafts; everything I do is for the betterment of our environment. And that is my focus.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------After achieving a First class BSc Psychology degree at the University of Exeter, where I studied modules such as 'Wild Behaviour' and the 'Biological Basis of Behaviour', I was inspired to continue my studies in a discipline that focussed on preserving, protecting, and understanding our natural environment. Just a year later, I achieved a distinction in my MSc Animal Behaviour degree and had gained experience co-authoring on published scientific reports. I was also awarded a prize for demonstrating academic excellence and best overall performance throughout the year. This proved to be an extremely proud and humbling moment which has shaped my career ambitions.Inspired by my recent academic success, I continued working with my MSc supervisor with data I had collected for my thesis. I independently managed, analysed, and interpreted large databases within RStudio, Excel, SPSS, Socprog, and communicated these findings in a written report. I am proud to have recently sent this paper for review to feature in a special edition of the Journal of Zoological and Botanical Gardens (ISSN 2673-5636).Meanwhile, recognising the novelty of the pandemic and the restrictions it incurs, I saw an opportunity to research the effect of visitor deprivation on captive animals. After gaining approval and support from academic and zoological institutions, I successfully led this research project from its inception to its implementation. I am now working with this unique dataset to prepare another scientific report for publication.I also recognise the segregation between science and the public. Driven to empower people with the knowledge that science provides, I volunteer as a community engagement officer, organising conservation talks and events across the Somerset and North Devon coast. I am excited to be working with stakeholders on various contemporary climate topics, including net carbon zero, ocean plastics, and the ecosystem services of wetlands. Ultimately, I address global climate issues by facilitating climate action at the individual level.
