HIAS Economic Advancement Fund (EAF) is an emerging Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) loan fund that provides entrepreneurial refugees access to capital so they can launch and grow their businesses. Responsible for providing day-to-day leadership and management to staff and ensure the organization has the people, systems, and policies in place to effectively grow, build financial strength and operating efficiency to achieve its mission. Responsible for establishing EAF as a CDFI and leading it through the start-up phase to full-scale operations

Responsible for the design, ongoing management and oversight of HIAS’s Microenterprise Development Program delivered by HIAS’s network of resettlement affiliates. The program was made possible by a recently awarded 5 year, $1.25mm grant from the US Department of Health & Human Service’s Office of Refugee Resettlement. Initially, the program will focus on supporting refugee women in Cleveland, OH and Ann Arbor, MI in becoming economically self-sufficient by providing assistance with the development, expansion or maintenance of a micro-business.

Managed refugee travel logistics for HIAS national network of affiliates through the U.S. Reception and Placement grant from the State Department's Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration. Provided training and technical assistance for a third of the network and managed family renunciation case processing for FSU Lautenberg Program, which resettles refugees from minority religions in the US.

Temporarily deployed with legal team to support HIAS’s work on litigation around the refugee travel ban. Identified individual plaintiffs, collected client stories and provided analysis of refugee arrival data in support of IRAP v. Trump lawsuit. The lawsuit was brought by the ACLU, ACLU of Maryland, and National Immigration Law Center on behalf of HIAS, the International Refugee Assistance Project at the Urban Justice Center, Middle East Studies Association, along with individuals, including U.S. citizens, affected by the ban.

Provided day-to-day administrative, operational, and logistical support for up to 7 direct reports providing resettlement support to over 1,000 refugees annually through federally funded programs administered by the U.S. State Department Bureau of Population, Refuge, and Migration and the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement. Managed full project lifecycle of sub-grant from federal Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation. Contributed to new business development and project management doubling the annual budget. Aggregated and analyzed program data and produced monthly summary report of outcomes to funders. Developed quality assurance protocols, monitored grant compliance, and conducted internal audits Led coordination of interdepartmental direct service team comprised of 20 staff representing core programs including; resettlement, health and wellness, community development and integration, and economic empowerment. Planned and coordinated weekly delivery of new client assessments across core resettlement programs. Coordinated team strategy meetings, interdepartmental case review meetings and managed distribution of workload to staff. Identified, cultivated and managed strategic partnerships with employers, recruiters, business associations and social organizations. Conducted industry research, investigated employer recruitment strategies, and maintained employer profiles. Consulted with employers and trainers to develop industry specific vocational training curriculums. Led full cycle recruitment for staff including: sourcing candidates, screening resumes, conducting behavioral based interviews, reference checks, salary negotiation and final offers of employment. Supported program manager and human resources in determining staff need, job description, and recruitment requirements. Conducted annual performance reviews, recommended merit promotions, and provided opportunities for professional development

Provided career development services to over 300 newly-arrived refugees and asylee clients with a 92% job placement success rate. Conducted employability assessments, created individualized plans and developed job search strategies. Performed industry research, investigated recruitment strategies, and maintained employer profiles. Designed and delivered industry specific job readiness trainings one-on-one and in large groups. Initiated and developed partnerships with employers through phone calls, site visits, and job fairs. Participated in airport pickups, home safety orientations, and 24-hour home visits for new arrivals

Assessed new client’s work experience, financial need, employment goals, and barriers to employment. Assisted with clients in developing CVs, cover letters and job search strategies. Provided administrative, operational, and logistical support to country team and international volunteers. Managed online workspace to facilitate improved communication, coordination, and knowledge management. Contributed to budget proposals for new business, identified potential donors, and organized fundraisers Island Aid is a volunteer driven non-profit formed in response to the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Providing isolated and vulnerable community support to West Sumatra and remote islands, a sea based mission delivered aid to over 6,000 tsunami survivors and hosted over 240 volunteers in 5 months.

Coordination of NGO coalition staff including 70+ rotating personnel and 200+ volunteers Distribution of 150mt of humanitarian aid (approximately 10,000 beneficiaries in 20 communities served). Procured supplies and equipment from UN and NGO distribution centers. Coordination of UN/NGO contracts for personnel/cargo movement aboard Island Aid ship.
