In this position I provided accounting services for all divisions of the company and handles the billing for our maintenance team. Geosciences Administrative Assistant/Gis Technician/Instructor Of Geography
As the Geosciences Administrative Assistant I handled logistics for the Geology and Geography departments to include: office assistance for faculty, travel arrangements for field trips, distributing end of semester assessments and booking rooms for meetings and events. I also scheduled events for the Geology Museum and Planetarium, and helped run field trips for school groups grade 2 - 12 as well as visiting college students. Part of my time was also spent providing administrative assistance to the Field Stations Advisory Committee. As a GIS Technician, I assisted geography faculty with their digital mapping needs. This included data management and assisting students when they had questions or problems with their class work. Part of my time as a GIS Tech was also spent providing GIS assistance to the Field Stations Advisory Committee. As a Geography Instructor, I taught the 300 level introductory GIS course and assist students with their GIS projects.
Be Healthy Qc Project Assistant
As Project Assistant I provided administrative and operations support for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Partnerships to Improve Community Health (PICH) grant to include: scheduling meetings, drafting reports and assisting with data collection. I provided administrative support (e.g., organizing and scheduling meetings, writing minutes, etc.) to the cross-sector collaborative infrastructure including supporting the QCHI Board, the Be Healthy QC Coalition and its associated workgroups. I also provided direct support for the communications objectives of Be Healthy QC to include: YouTube Channel, Facebook Page, and LinkedIn Page management; Newsletter creation and dissemination; media event organization; television and phone interview coordination and more. This position provided support to all project objectives.
Project, Communications And Development Associate
At QCHI I provided a wide range of services. With over 20 Board Members and 130 volunteers on 15 different teams, work groups and coalitions to manage, I balanced my time between meeting oriented tasks such as scheduling and booking meetings that fit a majority of the participants schedules, reproducing and distributing meeting materials and other important information, writing and distributing minutes, and maintaining the constantly evolving team contact databases. I maintained the fundraising database, as well as processed incoming gifts and wrote thank you letters and other correspondences to all potential, current and past donors. When necessary, I designed and formated messages on a variety of topics for distribution through Constant Contact to interested participants within the Quad City Community. I also updated the document filing system so that work within the office is more streamlined. This involved consolidating old document binders and eliminating redundancies within the digital filing system. While at QCHI I learned many new skills and used them to plan large events. I planned two annual Worksite Wellness Conferences, the organization's 15th anniversary event, and a large data presentation. I also handled contact database, website and social media management for QCHI. When I was not doing one of a myriad of these tasks, I processed donations, sent out Thank You letters and other correspondences and managing the budget binder in the office. I also distributed Health Facts Cards to local physicians on request.
Gis And Planning Assistant
At Bi-State I created and updated maps for member communities in the five county region that the organization serves. I created transportation, zoning, planning, sewer, water and educational district maps as part of my daily duties. I managed the update of the official regional map that will be distributed to local governments and the Quad Cities Visitors Bureau. I also created point of interest maps for those organizations and governments that requested them. In addition to my mapping assignments, I took up other duties around the office - including data collection for the 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan, conducting the quarterly ACCRA cost of living survey, website maintenance and counting of Municipal Code Enforcement System (MUNICES) fine payments. One of the largest projects I worked on was a community improvement grant application. I helped with site mapping and document acquisition. This proved difficult as much of the town deeds and maps were established when Abraham Lincoln was a lawyer, and had never been updated. We were able to secure $500,000 for riverfront renovation and expansion for a small Illinois town. This grant was the largest amount of money the city had every earned and we were all extremely proud of our work.
Gis Technician/Research Assistant/Student Project Manager
I worked as the student project manager on an Iowa Department of Natural Resources Emergency Services geocoding project. The project examined aerial photographs of all 99 counties in the State of Iowa in order to locate and classify all man-made structures and verify all building addresses in each county. This information was then given to Emergency 911 services to help facilitate address location and shorten emergency response times. As a supervisor, I trained new students every semester on the intricacies of the project and answered questions pertaining to project details. I also assigned duties to students and perform quality assurance and quality control checks on completed county assignments.I have also served as the GIS lab's Research Assistant. As an RA I worked on a number of research projects brought in by professors in different departments. Most of these projects were related to state water bodies. One of the largest projects I worked on was a stream and river analysis that lead to the creation of an Iowa Water Trails Map. I did all of the data analysis based on the requirements given to me and was able to produce a map showing current trails, rivers currently marked for consideration and future routes to be considered. My duties in the lab also required me to answer questions from GIS students and the public regarding the Iowa State ortho-servers and publicly shared data.
Gis Technician
I worked as a GIS Technician in the Iowa DNR headquarter building in Des Moines for about 6 months as part of an Americorps Volunteer service term. During this time I worked on miscellaneous projects as they were presented to me. Most of my time was spend updating statewide base maps that were available to the public on various state servers or cleaning up existing geodatabases.
Prairie Specialist
I spent my first year after college working as an Americorp Volunteer for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. As a Prairie Specialist I worked on all phases of the prairie plant cycle (germinating seedlings, planting, weeding, harvesting, cleaning and distributing seed to state DNR offices) and learned about how prairies influence the soil, the shape of the land and surrounding environment. As an Americorps Volunteer I organized and led volunteer activities within the community related to the prairie restoration effort as well as participated in and led local service projects sponsored by the Resource Center that educated youth about the importance of Iowa prairies. During my year at the Prairie Center I learned to operate and maintain several kinds of machinery, from seed cleaning equipment to tractors and combines. I was also certified to perform controlled burns and participated in organized burns on over two hundred acres of park land. I was also asked to write articles for the quarterly prairie newsletter distributed by the center, which I greatly enjoyed. As a state employee, I was licensed to drive state and government vehicles and did so on a daily basis.
Administrative Intern
While at this position I used Microsoft Office to secure rooms for meetings and track staff attendance. I participated in the revision of the Software Approval Process used for the Air Force through staff meetings and individual project initiatives and edited the final Software Approval Process Guidelines document. I also developed an accounting system for the organization of documents for future ease of access and managed the disposal of outdated unclassified documents.
