About James Smith
I was born 1986 to Michael Holley Smith and Emily Jane (Hinman) in Pascagoula, MS, USA, first of six. I was homeschooled growing up. Diagnosed in '19 with Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 1 (formerly Asperger's). We moved from Kent, Washington to Asheville, North Carolina and then Houston growing up, returning in the mid-90's to the Gulf Coast (not military). I acquired my G.E.D at M.S. Gulf Coast Community College and enrolled in Mechanical Engineering studies. I have always been interested in art and in my mid-teens collaborated with a publisher out of Brooklyn NY on some comics providing pencil drawings, occasionally providing inks. In '08, I was pursuing a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Alabama when I began to feel stirred to a priestly vocation. I had been Catholic and altar served for Mass numerous times and experienced some hints of my future vocation, but nothing concrete. The feeling persisted and I chose to leave uni and began reflecting on Christian apologetics and what God seemed to be saying to me. Most Reverend Bishop Roger Morin (died in 2019) graciously accepted me for the Diocese of Biloxi in 2008 and I was formed for priesthood at St. Joseph Seminary College and Notre Dame Seminary, both in Louisiana. I was ordained a priest by his Excellency on June 6, 2015. I have faculties to celebrate the Mass of 1962 ("Latin Mass") and celebrated my first August 28, 2022. I currently chaplain several different ministries as described later in my profile.
