I take the following quote as inspiration, and provocation, for my scientific writing.“Poetry is the only mode of written communication in which it is normal for all the words to mean what they say.”-- Hugh Kenner, The Art of Poetry (Chicago: Holt, Rinehart, & Winston, 1959).I think he is largely correct. But I want my scientific and policy words to mean what they say, to keep from getting lost in jargon or muddled thinking.
