As an athlete, I thrive on competition, I strive for perfection, and I am just as relentless in the pursuit of a flawless event. Add to that my lifelong love of live sporting events (and all that goes on behind the scenes) and I often wonder if I chose my profession or if it chose me. When I’m producing a live event, whether it is a sales conference, a pharmaceutical launch, an Upfront, or a gala, I love working with the client to ensure the message connects with the audience in the most innovative, unexpected way we can manage. You can’t be in the event production business without being a persistent problem solver, and I’m sure I answer hundreds of questions a day – maybe more - when we’re producing a show. Working with the client, I oversee the set design, the event flow, the sound, lighting, speakers and entertainment. It makes for a lot of quick thinking, and usually while on a tight deadline. I fell into the event production business. I was working as an assistant to a high-end photographer and happened to apply for a job with an event production company. They hired me as a grunt, but they called it a “production coordinator,” and I did whatever the executive producer needed me to do. That didn’t last long. Because I can juggle a lot of projects at once, and because (I’m told) I stay cool under pressure, I moved up quickly through the ranks. As an executive producer of dozens of shows each year, I think it’s crucial to have an easy demeanor. Whether I am producing a corporate meeting or a fundraiser, I work to ensure perfection for my own company and for the client. From creative direction to video production and my work with webcasting, satellite broadcasting, live cast and musical productions, I often think of myself as the piece that holds the entire show together. In essence, I’m the air traffic controller. During those rare times I can get away, I am a skier, triathlete, marathon runner, gym rat, deeply addicted golfer, and best of all, a dad.
