Join me on a trip down memory lane, back to 2006. I was a college freshman going to school for Professional Helicopter Pilot in northern MN. I was going to do all the dangerous stuff, land one skid on the side of a mountain, nearly chopping trees' tops off while rescuing hikers off of crumbling rock cliffs. About a year and a half in, some medical issues made me choose ground work. So I continued on my adrenaline seeking path, putting school on hold until I knew what I wanted to do, and became an EMT. Not far down that path, I knew the schedule wouldn't jive for the rest of my life, though it definitely checked the adrenaline box.Fast forward, I was working and looking to get back into Aviation, when an opportunity arose for SDSU's Aviation program. I packed my bags and moved 8 hours South and have been in Brookings ever since. Working for the Aviation program got me planted in accounting functions, which I found I enjoyed (surprising, having grown up hating math), and checked the adrenaline box (hello, aviation!) so I pursued a degree in Business Accounting.Let me COUNT the ways accounting has brought me joy! I have 13 years experience in accounting roles, specializing in payroll. I have a passion for accuracy, pay/ HRIS systems and creating efficiencies. I have had the privilege to work for small companies with few employees up to large companies with hundreds of employees, many at once in public accounting. Communication comes natural to me, I am an honest and logical soul with a superb sense of humor. I am a passionate learner, always looking to piece together the big picture. I thrive in environments where I can create systems, audit accuracies and analyze data and I get a kick out of putting a smile on someone's face.You may be wondering how the adrenaline box gets checked flying the desk…meeting tight deadlines, helping manage multiple departments and employees, and working to create efficiencies while not disrupting the universe. The adrenaline and hearth throb of connecting the just right business, with the just right resource to contribute to their success, really gets my jet fuel burning!
