Role entailed leading a team to update the council’s record of Japanese Knotweed populations across the Gower Peninsula. I learnt a great deal about conducting and planning ecological surveys, specifically in terms of time scales, thorough area coverage and safety. I gained skills in plant identification and inputting data in QGIS, as well as in organising field surveys with minimal supervision.

Session notes for each child must be kept updated while helping any children who are struggling with the work set. The role of a tutor is extremely stressful, for example as six new children arrived at a zone I was managing three of the computers stopped working, so I had to manage the three broken computers while helping the other three who were logged on. Time management was also important in this role as the children had a set time in the centre and the child had to have finished their set program in time for the parent to arrive. Show less

I also improved my decision making, as I had to make many quick judgment calls during a match, and be confident in them. I undertook a 5 day placement in the school after my AS Level exams and was invited back on a weekly basis the following year. I furthered my communication skills by explaining the complex principles to the pupils who struggled understanding them.
