In 2011 we began a new project to reinvent Myspace. We chose to rebuild from the ground up using Node.js and other open source software projects. Launched in June 2013 Myspace is now one of the largest production deployments of Node, handling millions of requests daily. Previously part of the Web Framework architecture team, I designed and developed tools, frameworks and features that all teams at Myspace would use to implement their features in a way that was highly scalable, performant and standardized for large teams. I was responsible for mentoring, code reviews and providing technical guidance for all frontend teams. • Designed and developed internal framework to support the new Myspace. Built on top of express, it provides an MVC approach for the frontend with contained controllers, routes, JSON endpoints, views, static content in individual feature based areas for increased maintainability and conflict free development. Designed to be compatible with the Spaceway framework. • Created the API for the iOS/Android app using exiting Node.js infrastructure. • Created Myspace for iOS app with over 2 million downloads and 6 million updates. • Developed Node module to handle caching at the master process level of a Cluster based Node deployment to increase performance of heavy backend resources. • Created internal tool to monitor realtime Node performance and requests per second. • Created Spaceway client/server framework to handle client side page transitions without reloading the page, which was necessary to keep the Myspace music/video player playing while browsing the site. Utilized many HTML5 features including local/sessionStorage, CORS for static content delivery, history API with pushState/replaceState to make this behavior transparent to users and postMessage. PC Scale Tower’s Tower product is the leading customer and route management system for the solid waste and recycling industry. Tower is a native desktop app using .NET Windows Forms and the backend was built using SOA design with web services. • Architected SOA based web service application to replace legacy client-server version. • Created XAML like xml language to store UI centrally on the servers allowing clients to always stay up-to-date without having to manually update clients. This allowed for very easy customization, versioning and distribution. • Designed and developed countless user interfaces to support the Tower system with features including: Customer Service, Billing, Operations, Dispatch, Collections, Maps using Windows Forms for .NET in C#. • Architected update manger service for local instances of Tower to receive updates from Tower directly. Service supported full-stack deployment from managing local SQL databases and web services to client installations. Everything was fully versioned and was able to handle rollbacks and failures without dataloss. • Created onboard vehicle dashboard system using .NET compact framework that was installed in many client vehicles. Integrated with onboard interface to log lifts and drive data. • Designed and developed intranet site for client billing, support issues and time keeping. • eTower: Architected, designed and developed client portal that allowed customers to manage account, view history, schedule pickups, view invoices and make payments online. • Integrated with several credit card gateways including merchant partners, paypal, and authorize.net. Credit card numbers were stored encrypted and fully PCI compliant. • TowerTrack: Created full-stack system to aggregate realtime GPS vehicle data and generate custom reports that included: stop exceptions, time limit based, geofence and trip calculation based on known facility locations.
