Rand Mine Properties, Styldrift Platinum Mine Decline Shaft, South AfricaOctober 2001 – June 2002Deputy Project Manager responsible for the review and redrafting of client specific conditions of contract, finalisation of commercial negotiations with contractor including agreement of performance bonus mechanisms and Pain / Gain agreements and preparation of contract documentation. This was the first use of the NEC contract by this client Komati Basin Water Authority, Maguga Dam, SwazilandNovember 1998 – January 2001 (FIDIC Red Book, remeasurable, £75m)Resident Contracts Engineer responsible for ensuring proper administration of the contract including defence of claims, preparation of client position papers for dispute review board hearings, and generally supporting the client on commercial and contractual matters. Responsible for line management of the Quantity Surveying, Land Surveying and Administrative departments, and for mobilisation and demobilisation of local and expatriate staff, housing, etc. Regularly deputised as Chief Resident Engineer, including an extended period of approximately 4 months, taking full responsibility for project delivery over that period.Key contributions included establishing the processes and procedures required for administration of the contract including filing systems, communication protocols, change control procedures, etc. Lesotho Highlands Development Agency, Katse Dam Lesotho August 1994 – October 1998 (FIDIC Red Book, remeasurable, £375m)Senior Contracts Engineer responsible for ensuring proper administration of the contract. This included defence of claims; preparation of client position papers for dispute review board and international arbitration hearings; and generally supporting the client on commercial and contractual matters. Achieved agreement of the final account for this project on the same day as the issue of the completion certificate.
