I believe the pace of change is accelerating and the societal impact of those changes is increasing. However, most organizations are not adequately preparing for this shift.Decades working in the software development industry conditioned me to see change as a constant. It was just a given that technology and the problems we were solving with it, were constantly evolving. Surprisingly though, the organizations in which I worked, had not been optimized to deal with this uncertainty. Instead, they were structured and managed in ways that prioritized the efficient execution of planned activities by siloed resources. Leaders demanded predictability, so variability was a liability to be avoided at all cost, and the costs were huge. Now, I’ve learned to see variability as an opportunity; something that can’t be avoided, but might be leveraged. As a Leader and Organizational Coach with this mindset, I've successfully helped many different types of organizations succeed in dynamic environments by developing their ability to quickly recognize and adapt to change. Often, this means working with leaders and teams in discovering ways to balance wicked paradoxes like innovation vs efficiency, adaptability vs predictability, short-term delivery vs long-term productivity.I help organizations, one leader, one team, one team member at a time, learn how to better navigate our rapidly changing world.
