Responsible for assembling a large variety of transport optics, headend optics, nodes and amplifiers. Working on many different products daily, in sometimes large quantities. Job duties entail splicing optical lasers for assemblies, soldering chips for product board upgrades, inspecting and cleaning products if necessary.

Reporting to the Value Stream Manager of this global leader in high-reliability engineered interconnect solutions for power transmission, data transmission, and monitoring applications for the commercial, defense, and ocean markets, I am engaged in the splicing of fiber optic cable, particularly the assembly of fiber optic penetrators that ensure reliable fiber transition through a bulkhead of up to 12 fibers. In addition, I build fiber jumpers that connect end devices to the structured cabling system to withstand harsh environments. The position is outstanding and I am honored to be frequently tasked to oversee special projects requiring “pushing products out the door for final assembly.” The end game is (and always must be) exceeding a client’s expectations in the precise world of fiber optics.

As a summer position to support my academic endeavors, I enjoyed a rewarding experience at this leading manufacturer of medical diagnostic devices, patient monitoring systems, and miniature precision lamps. Highlights in Facilities Management included coordinating building maintenance and departmental moves; assisting with a building safety evaluation re-design, and perhaps most interesting of all, managing all facets of a highly successful one-of-a-kind auction of furniture and equipment for the employees of Welch Allyn, Inc. This involved organizing a spreadsheet of all available items to be auctioned, orchestrating various components of the auction, and then loading the trucks and delivering the goods. Previously on the Assembly Line, I became acquainted with the various processes and equipment and consistently exceeded the daily quota of products made in a day, including various Mobile Stands, blood pressure gauges, and 766/777 wall transformers
