The Magnetic Materials Lab under the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Faculty of Engineering primarily studies the magnetic properties of non-equilibrium and metastable materials. - Designed and built custom commissioned lab equipment to facilitate research where existing commercial equipment does not meet testing methodology or requirements sufficiently- Designed complete solutions from the first step of sample loading to the last step of visualising measured data in software- Equipment streamed data directly to computer via serial to for real-time data visualisation during experiment- Designed logic and automation with microcontrollers and analogue electronics- Implemented closed loop PID feedback control to maintain performance with external perturbation - Produced rapid prototypes with CAD and CAM (FDM/SLA 3D printing, laser cutting)- Equipment studied material properties such as magnetostriction, permeability, resistance and more (see project list for further details)
