Administrative duties and helping Dr. Upadhyayula with pain management procedures. Procedures include LTFI, RFA, LFMB, CSI, SIJI and many others. The procedures usually involve the injection of steroids into the spine, spaces between the spine, or into the joint. The steroids come in contact with the nerve causing pain and help alleviate it. This could be a long term fix or a temporary one depending on the patient and their condition. I also assist with pump refills. Some of the patients who see Dr. Upadhyayula have an implanted pump which gives them a specific dosage of medication throughout the day or whenever they need it. After a few months, usually 6, the Dr. Upadhyayula needs to replace the medication in the pump. I help set up for pump refills, interrogate (determine how much medication is left) the patients pump and clean up after the procedure. Some of the administrative duties I do are opening notes for Dr. Upadhyayula to update, closing notes after Dr. Upadhyayula has updated them, scheduling patient appointments, processing patient samples, and doing telemedicine appointments for the patients.
