One of the lead student attorneys in two civil rights cases concerning Constitutional violations, including a class action lawsuit brought on behalf of Colorado State Penitentiary prisoners held in solitary confinement. The class action was successfully settled leading to an overhaul of the policies of the Colorado Department of Corrections and Colorado State Penitentiary and the rectification of their constitutional violations of our clients.Our legal team was one of only four in the nation nominated for the prestigious Public Justice National Trial Lawyer of the Year award for 2017 for our work on the class action case, Decoteau v. Raemisch.Researched and analyzed all applicable state and federal law, internal regulations, and standards of industry custom in order to prove that the defendants were not in compliance with the law.Drafted all motions and pleadings in the case, including the initial Complaint and Motion for Summary Judgment. Represented Plaintiffs in Federal Court on multiple occasions as well as facilitated settlement negotiations.Authored the press release for the class action lawsuit against Colorado State Penitentiary.
