Raised in Hendersonville, NC, he started taking private programming lessons at age 8 and won several state-level Design/Programming awards before he finished high school. Prior to collegiate life, Ryan served in the Army (1993-97)—graduating from the Diplomatic Language School (1994) and the Army Intelligence School (1995). He served both as an Afghan linguist (Dari) and Military Interrogator during his tenure. He held DLPT (Defense Language Proficiency Test) scores in Persian-Afghan, Farsi, and German. He is proficient in languages in both the Arabic and Cyrillic alphabets. Upon completion of his military tenure he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his service. Following his service, Ryan earned a degree in computer operations management from Eastern Illinois and upon graduation, worked in downtown Chicago as a developer for an advertising agency. He returned to the Upstate in 2000, as the Architect of Web Applications Development at Nuvox Communications till 2005. During that tenure, he co-founded his own interactive company: Mediasation. In 2013, they merged with Fuel Marketing to form Fuel Digital Marketing & Branding. He served as President of this agency, overseeing a diverse, highly skilled group of people. Under his guidance, the organization grew to 38 employees. In 2015 Ryan handed over the managing partner title and focused on overseeing the custom application development team. In 2016 Ryan left Fuel to start BECK Digital Marketing. Being driven by causes that have a positive impact on society, BECK focuses on digital marketing and development for hospitals and non-profits. When not working, Ryan enjoys hiking, exploring the outdoors, playing guitar, painting, pottery and reading voraciously. He also teaches classes on kinesics and is active in Greenville leadership and technology groups.
