As part of senior management in a 46 million dollar nonprofit with 500 employees, I am responsible for the development of tactical plans that accomplish key strategic planning goals and the implementation of efforts to accomplish them. Serving a primary constituency of close to 100 human service programs as well as external partners in the government, corporate and philanthropic sectors, my work involves a good deal of capacity building support to programs, new markets program development, program fund development and grant making.

In this role, as part of a landmark 3-year White House sponsored study of how ex-offenders reintegrate back into society, I conducted reconnaissance site visits to prospective grantees and subcontractors, ongoing site program and organizational assessments, grantee program monitoring, technical assistance and annual grant disbursements of over $3 million dollars to organizations that participated in P/PV’s research demonstration. In addition, I oversaw another $2 million in federal grant projects, managed a small army of consultants, provided technical assistance in the areas of organizational health and program quality for over 50 U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Employment and Training Administration grantees annually and was contributing author of a DOL Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives publication focused on effective practices of grassroots workforce development programs (published in 2005 with Foreword by the Secretary of Labor). Other select milestones I achieved in my tenure included:Provided oral and written testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Appropriations for the U.S. Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Justice.Developed and successfully implemented several national capacity building and workforce development related technical assistance trainings and large conferences for the U.S. Department of Labor Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and the Corporation for National and Community Service (managers of the better known AmeriCorps programs).

Managing a department budget of 1.5 million dollars (Ford Foundation and Lilly Endowment funding primarily), I was responsible for the development and implementation of programs, policies and tools that assisted member faith-based community development corporations (CDCs) with best practices and how-to instruction on effectively doing the varied work of community economic development. This included sponsoring training and technical support services for audiences around the U.S., cultivation of and accountability to the NCCED member CDCs and Board committees, and oversight of several writing and research projects. This also included publishing a specialized newsletter - an industry trade publication with national circulation, policy advocacy work, convenings via policy conferences and the organization’s annual national conference focused on skill building and information sharing.
