At Biodiversify we help organisations from any sector understand and tackle complex problems in biodiversity sustainability. We have a track record working with governments, businesses and NGOs to help them develop new approaches, create biodiversity strategies and natural capital plans. We are open to any novel challenge and have experience working on a wide range of topics. We have established ourselves as leaders in the field of corporate biodiversity/nature positive strategies and have conducted in-depth work for leaders in many sectors including tech, packaging, real estate, fashion and water. Key clients include Tetra Pak, Kering and Primark. Since mid 2019 we have supported the UK government in the development and execution of the Environment Act, as well as working with private sector organisations to make better strategic decisions about their biodiversity impacts.

Supervised by Dame Professor E.J. Milner-Gulland I used anthropological approaches to study how large organisations make decisions about biodiversity in practice. Through close collaboration with the South African government, I mapped out the social dynamics within their biodiversity net gain, landscape level planning and environmental impact assessment process. This allowed me to understand how negotiations operated in practice, and which factors in these negotiations led to better outcomes for nature. In conjunction with this, I conducted the largest ever review of spatial plans for nature, a common and critical tool for taking action for nature. I worked on a broad range of topics and learnt about all aspects of conservation in Africa. I worked in Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia on a broad range of topics from poaching to community management of fisheries.

In this position I managed all scientific aspects of Frontier including fundraising, publication of scientific papers and staff management. I also played a major trouble-shooting role.

I lived on remote islands and studied the feeding habits of the African Penguin as part of a larger project on the effectiveness of marine protected areas.
