Design Team Lead - M2 Upgrade

Sydney, Australia

The M2 Upgrade, funded by the Government of NSW, will widen the existing motorway generally between Windsor Road, Baulkham Hills and Lane Cove Road, North Ryde and will deliver four new ramps to improve access to the motorway. Upon finalizing design phases, construction works should take approximately 2 years to complete. As the Project Lead, regular weekly meetings with Contractors and clients were essential. From this I would discuss deliverables and time frames, in which I would prioritize deliverables, distribute to my design team, to complete and issue. As a key member of the complete design team, liasing with every department, discipline and operator was a daily occurrence. The key success was establishing a great working relationship between myself and the project managers from both Aecom and Leighton Holdings. Some duties would consist of;• Automating information exchange processes to assist delivery• Reviewing drawings and models• Package sign offs• Signing off reports• Training staffI managed all technical resources and staff on the project, prioritizing tasks, keeping the team delivering on a daily basis.Throughout my time at Aecom, I have been a regular figure with the development of GIS and intergrating the software onto large projects on joint ventures, mainly with Leighton’s, as a live interactive system, encorporating all 2d/3d design, gps photographs, survey and documentation to all users on the M2 project. As part of this development, it was essential to create a strong working link between 2d/3d and GIS.

Dec 2009 - Dec 2011

Gis Specialist

Victoria, Australia

Bahr El-Jebel, is a government funded project, which started as a proposal for a new Hydropower Dam across the River Nile, lying in the Sudan region of Africa.Working from Melbourne, my role was to collate vast proportions of various data types from clients and colleagues within Australia, in the field in Sudan, and various Governments and Councils in Africa.Duties included GIS management; setting up geo-databases from raster and vector datasets, geo-referencing datasets, and creating a file based system and structure which would then be adopted by other SMEC offices.Data would come to me directly in various file types and sizes, which would then be converted into a suitable GIS format, attaching a geo-reference and projection, relevant database and METADATA.Point data such as DTM, LIDAR data, bathymetric and surveyed GPS co-ordinates would then need to be imported into ArcMAP, interpolated using 3D Analysis, to creating a 3D raster surface or a TIN. Once created we can then interrogate the data using 3D spatial tools such as point to point visibility, slope analysis, contouring, cut and fill.Linking external data types within ArcMAP with specific points or co-ordinates in the form of a Hotlink or a Hyperlink, such as borehole logs to the geo-referenced point on our map, once selected, would open that specific log report as a PDF. This PDF was originally created and exported from a geotechnical earthworks package called gINT.Each data set would be saved as a layer file or a shape file within our database. Often collating a dataset in the form of a working read-only drawing/package, this would then be exported as a published document and sent to personnel involved within SMEC’s Australia offices and direct to our colleagues in Sudan.Having been the only GIS analyst/specialist member of staff working on the project in Melbourne; I would work independently, liaising with departments, offices and clients on a daily basis.
