My name is Seth Thompson and I am driven to help Oregon communities through my work in planning and economic development. Since beginning my public service career, I have been honored to serve four Oregon cities, two counties and two state agencies in both professional and volunteer roles.I have directly administered Oregon’s planning program by facilitating responsible land use planning in Marion County and Lane County, Oregon. I am currently a broadband project coordinator for Business Oregon, which is the state of Oregon’s economic development agency.Prior to public service, I worked in marketing for five years managing dynamic team projects for a local online retailer.I hold a Master of Community and Regional Planning from the University of Oregon, where my academic research focused on current challenges facing affordable housing in Oregon.As a public servant, my goal is to serve all members of the public and provide them with the resources to build and engage in sustainable, livable communities.

Broadband Project CoordinatorBusiness Oregon Jul 2022 - PresentDrafted and coordinated production of $2.45 million Request for Proposals (RFP) to hire a planning consultant for statewide $688 million Broadband, Equity, Access, and Deployment Program and Digital Equity Program.Coordinated production of $350,000 RFP to hire an application support consultant for statewide $157 million Broadband Deployment Program. Successfully administered three grant contracts with a collective award amount of $400,000 for the statewide Broadband Technical Assistance Program, which funded public and private partnership efforts to plan for future broadband deployment in unserved Oregon communities.Produced four informational “one-pagers” that were published on the Oregon Broadband Office’s website and distributed to more than 60 total elected officials, public officials, and community members. In 2023, successfully engaged with 19 county governments, 32 towns and cities, 13 internet service providers (ISPs), 10 school districts, four libraries, attended 36 public meetings and tabled three conference events.Manage multiyear, self-directed public outreach campaign covering 19 counties to prepare regional governments and ISPs for state broadband infrastructure programs totaling nearly $1 billion in federal funding.Develop and maintain positive working relationships with local and regional government officials, elected officials, tribal members, and ISPs.Successfully convey technical telecommunications and government program language to non-technical elected officials, public officials, and community members. -
Program Assistant CoordinatorBusiness Oregon Apr 2022 - Jul 2022Completed Business Oregon’s initial analysis of survey data gathered for the Infrastructure and Community Facilities Inventory, which was Business Oregon’s first statewide inventory of short and long-term capital construction needs in communities and port districts in Oregon.Analyzed survey results from approximately 162 Oregon jurisdictions that submitted 639 infrastructure projects for a total statewide project need of $3.2 billion.Synthesized all survey results to establish findings. Presented findings and recommended next steps to Business Oregon management, Business Oregon Regional Development Officers, and multiple agency boards.Wrote all web content for the Infrastructure and Community Facilities Inventory webpage on Business Oregon’s website. -
Aviation PlannerOregon Department Of Aviation Jan 2020 - Jan 2023Salem, OregonCoordinated and administered the statewide Airspace Analysis Program to ensure Oregon’s airspace was safe for commercial and general aviation navigation, which required cultivating positive relationships with local governments, aviation sponsors, state agencies and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).Produced Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) 738-070-0160 3 (a-c), the agency’s first fee program to fund the Airspace Analysis Program.
