Police Sergeant and mental health keynote & corporate speaker. On 8 April 2003, I attended a suicide that had a profound impact on me that changed the course of my life. I was extremely naive and uneducated in mental health and suffered escalating symptoms for a near decade. After having all of my resilience eroded away, my self worth stripped from me and losing my love of life, I had a catastrophic loss of self, was hospitalised in 2013 and diagnosed with PTSD, depression and anxiety. I had to essentially learn to live again and through a range of actions, including a diet change, removal of alcohol consumption, practising mindfulness, meditation and a determination to live again, not just survive but to live, I am now functioning to a level that allows me to mostly live somewhat a normal life. I am highly active in helping my colleagues who have been diagnosed and also those that have not through education and support. To help support my colleagues with this serous injury, I co-founded The Code 9 Foundation (www.code9ptsd.org.au) which is a registered charity supporting professional first responders, which we count Triple Zero Victoria operators within this cohort. Speaking about my experiences throughout my mental health journey is incredibly rewarding and being able to bring a voice to those who cannot speak about their own struggles is something I do not take lightly. Speaking ultimately is very healthy for me and to able to educate and give an insight to others, is a privilege. As such, I launched my own speaking business in 2020.#BeWell
