  • Axa Insurance Uk (Based In Sydney, Australia Since Oct-2012)
    Pricing Data Warehouse Manager
Axa Insurance Uk (Based In Sydney, Australia Since Oct-2012) Oct 2011 - Jan 2015
    Cobham, United Kingdom
I was approached by a director of AXA Insurance UK to design and implement a completely new SAS data warehouse for pricing and underwriting. For 3 years I recruited and managed a team to undertake this project. Used by 150+ Actuaries, Data Analysts and Underwriters, key to delivering a successful data warehouse was to understand the varied and complex business requirements of the users. The data warehouse extracted and conformed data from over 40 different sources and was used for pricing analysis, pricing optimisation modelling, customer marketing analysis and claim reserving. My statistical and analytical background placed me in a strong position to understand these requirements. Built on an Inmon model, the data warehouse had:• Foundation marts supporting technically proficient users wishing to analyse the data using data mining techniques• Aggregate summary marts designed to answer specific business questions aimed at the non-technical users• SAS user project areas for ad-hoc analyses of the data, hierarchically structured to encourage sharing of programs, macros, data and formats
  • Direct Line Insurance Group
    Sas Bi & Analytical Consultant
Direct Line Insurance Group Oct 2010 - Oct 2011
    Bromley, United Kingdom
Upon the successful delivery of the suite of BI reports (see previous role), Direct Line Group again invited me to undertake another project. The project was to design and develop a SAS data mart for pricing optimization as part of the existing data warehouse. Understanding the business objectives of the Pricing Optimization team was key to the success of the project and led to implementing model scoring into the data mart and developing BI reports to assess model performance.
  • Direct Line Insurance Group
    Sas Bi & Analytical Consultant
Direct Line Insurance Group Jun 2009 - Oct 2010
    Bromley, United Kingdom
After the successful completion of the data warehouse project (see previous role) with Direct Line Group, they invited me to undertake a new project of designing a suite of BI reports to sit on top of the data warehouse. The suite contained reports such as weekly and monthly conversion packs, as well as some more peculiar and interesting reports such as:• Spill & Recapture Report: graphs & tables monitoring the churn of customers between the group's brands.• Rate Raider Report: using statistical techniques such as fitting an exponential distribution to the data to detect rate raider and other spurious quotes hitting the group's brand websites.
  • Direct Line Insurance Group
    Sas Etl Developer
Direct Line Insurance Group Jun 2006 - Jun 2009
    Bromley, United Kingdom
Direct Line Group hired me as a SAS Developer to be part of a team that designed and implemented a SAS data warehouse from scratch for insurance pricing and underwriting. The data warehouse was used by 200+ Actuaries and Data Analysts for pricing analysis. The data warehouse delivered standardised data marts for the Group's 20+ insurance brands and products. Key to handling the immense number of different data extracts was designing the main components of the transformation stage to be metadata driven.
  • Bradford & Bingley
    Sas Bi & Analytical Consultant
    Bradford & Bingley Jan 2006 - Jun 2006
    London, United Kingdom
During this 6 month contract in the BI team, I was responsible for developing new BI reports for the Finance Department. The reports manipulated data stored in a SAS data warehouse developed in DI Studio to produce Excel and HTML based tables and charts.

  • Gmac Bank
    Statistician
    Gmac Bank Dec 2003 - Jun 2004
    Bracknell, United Kingdom
I was hired as a Statistical Consultant for a 6 month contract to manage a project to develop GARCH and ARIMA time series models. The models were built using SAS/ETS to forecast future values of a wide spectrum of economic factors. These factors were incorporated into a logistic regression model to predict the number of mortgage defaults.
  • Direct Line Group
    Sas Bi Analyst / Statistician
Direct Line Group Nov 2001 - Dec 2003
    Croydon, United Kingdom
I worked on 2 separate roles at Direct Line Insurance. The statistical role involved building mailing campaign targeting models using logistic regression. The models replaced the previous mailing technique of “carpet-bombing” and delivered a significant increase in mailing performance. The SAS BI role was to design and develop a BI Solution for pricing and underwriting. This project involved meeting with the Actuaries and Underwriters to understand their requirements, determining the facts, dimensions and calculated metrics of the dimensional model, and finally implementing with SAS. The solution used Cognos as the reporting layer.
  • Virgin Media
    Sas Bi & Analytical Consultant
    Virgin Media Mar 2001 - Nov 2001
    London, United Kingdom
Virgin Media hired me for a 9 month contract to develop a BI solution for the Business Analysis, Marketing & Finance Departments to report on a number of metrics monitoring the Virgin Media website. After meeting with the various departments to understand their varied needs, I designed and implemented a number of SAS data marts to sit on top of their Oracle data warehouse. The reporting layer was a suite of static Excel and HTML based reports developed using SAS.
  • Sas
    Statistician
    Sas Sep 1998 - Mar 2001
    Marlow, United Kingdom
Working as part of the SAS Institute Technical Support help-line, my primary task was to show customers techniques for analysing statistical data. My specialist areas of SAS software were Enterprise Miner, STAT, ETS, IML, QC and OR modules. In addition to that role, I taught 1-3 day public SAS courses at the SAS Institute on topics such as Base SAS, Macro, Logistic Regression, Categorical Modeling and ANOVA. Working for SAS Institute Technical Support help-line gave me the opportunity to become grounded in all areas of SAS while at the same time gaining insight into the way clients were using SAS and the types of problems they were facing. The role was key to developing SAS problem solving skills that would become invaluable in every role that I have had since.
