Stephan possesses broad expertise in commercial leasing and the acquisition and disposition of real assets. His extensive experience with a wide range of complex real estate transactions enables him to structure innovative solutions and to obtain superior results on behalf of his clients. His experience includes office, retail and industrial transactions. He is particularly adroit at navigating the set of sophisticated (and sometimes byzantine) deal structures that benefit tax-exempt organizations. Stephan has advised a number of notable clients, including (without limitation): Sullivan & Cromwell, Cravath, Swaine & Moore, Erste Bank, The New School, Sidewalk Labs, Action Against Hunger, The Committee to Protect Journalist, The International Refugee Assistance Program, The Jewish Association Serving the Aging, Kaplan Hecker & Fink, Epoch Investment Partners, Digital Sky Technologies, Studio 71 and the Governments of Germany and Austria. Prior to joining Savills, Stephan was an associate at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, LLP. At Paul, Weiss, Stephan’s legal practice focused on complex and often high-profile real estate transactions, including, without limitation, the World Trade Center joint venture and the sale-leaseback of New York State’s three marquee horse racing venues: Aqueduct Racetrack, Saratoga Raceway and Belmont Park.Stephan earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Philosophy from the University of Montana, where he was on the 4.0 GPA List, and a Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School, where he was a three time Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and where he was president of the Columbia Real Estate Law Society.
