Kogo is a diesel-electric yacht with two ABB Azipod propeller drives supplied by 2 x Caterpillar and 2 x MTU generators. The main propulsion was provided by two V18 Pielstick PC2 directly reversible medium speed diesel engines. Leading a team of 4 engineers, 2 fitters and 2 motormen. Two months into my 4 months contract V-Ships took over the management of the ship and I was transferred to MV Strider Isis and promoted to Chief Engineer.

I was 2nd Engineer on two vessels; the 28,000dwt geared bulk carrier MV Lantau Trader and the feeder container ship MV City of Plymouth. The main propulsion on Lantau Tarder was provided by a Sulzer 6RND76 slow speed diesel engine and on City of Plymouth by a Doxford 58JS3 Seahorse 2 stroke engine.Responsible to the Chief Engineer for the daily operation and maintenance of the engine room, cargo cranes and other deck machinery. On Lantau Trader I was in charge of a team 4 Engineers, 2 Fitters and 2 Motormen. On City of Plymouth I was one of 3 Engineers; myself and the 3rd Engineer were Duty Engineer in charge of the entire engine room on alternate days.
3Rd Engineer And Passenger Services Engineer
I was the 3rd Engineer Officer in charge of the entire engine room watch onboard the passenger vessel M.V. Orient Express. The main machinery consisted of 4 x V12 Pielstick main engines driving two controllable pitch propellers. The auxiliary machinery was 4 x Wartsila diesel alternators and 9 x Alfa-Laval purifiers.For a 10 week period I was 2nd Engineer Officer (Passenger Service Engineer) in charge of the operation and maintenance of all of the passenger services, including HVAC, vacuum sewage system, reverse osmosis fresh water production, cabin and public room repairs, galley, laundry, elevators and the hotel electrical installation. I had a staff 4 engineers to assist me.
4Th Engineer
In my time as 4/E at Eastern Bulkers Ltd I completed five contracts on handy size, geared bulk carriers in the size range 22,000dwt - 26,000dwt. As 4/E I was responsible for; air compressor maintenance, purifier maintenance, loading the bunkers under the supervision of the Chief Engineer and being Duty Engineer in charge of the entire engine room watch for one UMS duty day in three. The main propulsion machinery was B&W, MAN and Sulzer slow speed 2 stroke engines and Stork-Werkspoor TM410 medium speed engines.
