My current role is the creation of a new rapid prototyping, R&D lab (Known in the shipyard as a Moonshine Lab). This lab will directly support the Inactivation, Reactor Compartment Disposal, and Recycling program (I.R.R.) at PSNS in anticipation of Product Lines being implemented. Our lab will be able to support the ongoing naval mission of nuclear vessel disposal and containment. This lab will support both the leadership of our department, and the great mechanics that keep our Navy in fighting condition.The mission statement for this lab is as follows:"The new Moonshine Lab will provide the Code 1070 IRR Product Line the ability to rapidly prototype new ideas, innovations, and trial test concepts using the moonshine process: Analyze, Conceptualize, Prototype, and Deliver."Currently training for Green Belt Certification so the concepts of LEAN, Theory of Constraints, and Six Sigma can be used to increase the benefits provided by this operation.Learning or increasing the following skills:Time management, interpersonal communication, safety awareness, Computer Aided Design, prototype creation, material manipulation and fabrication, industrial tool use, small team accounting, proposal creation, public speaking, small team management, data gathering, data analysis, data application and presentation, creation of lesson plans, new processes or tool training.
