German - English Translator (Business, Literature, Culture And Tourism)
Current1999 - 2005 Some freelance translation work from German and French for translation agencies and for Liverpool Women's Hospital and from Spanish for Liverpool's Walton Hospital undertaken in my spare time whilst working as a psychiatric nurse. Fields covered: basic legal work for two firms of solicitors in Liverpool (divorces, witness statements, personal injury work, contracts etc.) ; I regularly translated issues of a mental health support services newsletter as well as other articles on drugs policies etc. for a specialised medical translation agency in Bavaria. I have worked as a full time translator since 2004. I have also translated CVs for doctors, clinical trial reports etc. In line with customer demand, I have translated texts as diverse as general commercial and legal texts, gastronomy, the environment, texts relating to computerised gambling machines, ancient Egyptian literature, tourism, medical technology, patents, marketing material and lighting catalogues. For personal reasons I was unable to work for most of 2012. I was, however, the lead translator for the Koettermann laboratory equipment and furniture website. I was also accepted onto the SDL Trados panel of freelance translators after doing test translations in general medicine, general law and marketing. In 2013 -15 I have mostly translated pharmacology, general business and legal texts as well as texts on psychiatry for the University of Stuttgart and texts on Medieval literature and Japanese poetry. I have also translated a lot of marketing materials for a German luxury goods retailer. I currently work with Microsoft Office 2010 and Trados/SDLX 2017.
