Operates complex radio and telephone equipment via a control console toreceive emergency calls; dispatches appropriate vehicles and/or personnel;maintains CAD records via a computer terminal and monitors progress of calls.Operates telephone and communications support equipment includingmulti-channel logging recorders, computer terminals, multi-line telephoneequipment and related subsystems.Provides Basic Life Support instructions via telephone to emergencycallers.Initiates radio system operational checks and reports failures of equipmentto supervisor.Inputs data into the CAD system.Maintains accurate records, maps, manuals and other data pertinent toefficient dispatch procedures.Assists callers requesting Emergency Medical Services (EMS) response byproviding emergency care instructions to be followed while awaiting the arrivalof EMS vehicles and personnel; utilizes approved emergency medical informationprotocols.Performs related work as required.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge of basic emergency care and response assignment protocols.Knowledge of the geography of the County.Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.Ability to speak clearly and concisely on the radio and telephone.Ability to cope with frequent extreme emergency situations demanding speed,maturity, judgement, tact, poise, patience and courtesy.Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and co-workers.Skill in the use of a computer terminal.
