As senior engineering technologist in the Repair Technology Center of Excellence I lead the technology planning and execution for advance engine repairs. Our efforts are focused on applying advanced metal joining, inspection, metal removal and coating of advanced materials (metals and advanced composites). In addition to development of advanced repair processes we over see the industrialization of these processes into our global service centers. Our efforts cover the entire turbine engine from fan through turbine and exhaust section.At present I am focused on the next generation of commercial engine repairs. Our efforts start with assessing the resulting fundamental material properties imparted by advanced joining techniques. Material properties of interest are high temperature tensile strength, impact strength and creep. As we develop the knowledge base around a specific joining process we move to adapting the process to the entire repair flow with an eye toward reducing numbers of steps, environmental impacts and throughput time. This approach requires we assess other key technologies required of a specific component repair such as: inspection, machining, hardening, coatings, etc. Our goal is to provide a proven repair process to the business before it is needed.

Wyle is a large engineering services company specializing in flight test and evaluation, systems engineering, and acquisition management. As Director of Air Force Business Development interface with senior Air Force leadership to identify customer requirements and build program efforts that satisfy those needs, set corporate market strategy for growing business in the Air Force sector, and lead strategic capture efforts. I have successfully grown the Dayton, Ohio operation from $7M to a $19M operation over a two year period.As Director of AF BD and Sector Manager I built a staff of 86 dedicated engineers and acquisition specialist. We have been fortunate to continue our growth even in these hard times by having the right mix of talent and contract vehicles. We are now expanding our AF support beyond WPAFB.

In this senior leadership position I was responsible for the development of strategic business plans and product development requirements. Built and maintained executive relationships with U.S. and Canadian Embassies, U.S. Departments of Commerce, Defense, FAA, and State, foreign government aviation agencies. Established working group with Canadian European Union Embassies to coordinated market intelligence. Based upon such relations, developed requirements and business case for international commercial helicopter development. Established and led Bell Helicopter's international Customer Advisory Council for this new product. Led strategic technology planning for research ranging from basic materials through component level demonstrations. Products included: manned, unmanned, military and commercial, helicopters and tiltrotors. Led program execution assessments for all of Bell Helicopter's military programs. Responsible for interfacing with Pentagon senior leadership to keep programs sold.

Senior technical specialist to the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) on issues regarding the defense industries’ readiness to meet military tactical aircraft and helicopter production needs of Major Defense Acquisition Programs (MDAPs). Provided OSD oversight and review of acquisition programs; led production readiness teams; analyzed health of the U.S. industrial base; and assessed the impact of industry consolidations on MDAP execution/cost. Presented results of my work to the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics in support of acquisition milestone and industrial sector policy decisions. These efforts resulted in OSD policy initiatives to rejuvenate competition in the helicopter sector and the restructuring of the Navy and Air Forces’ unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) programs to foster future competition.

Competitively selected by the Secretary of the Air Force to serve as Capitol Hill Congressional Fellow. Selected by Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) to be his Military Legislative Assistant. Led formulation of the Senator’s strategy to influence the military authorization and appropriations bills, acted as strategist and advisor on all military matters, attended key military functions with the Senator or attended on his behalf.

Promoted to manage $300M worth of aerospace research in the areas of manufacturing processing and fabrication, conducted original composite airframe structure research design efforts. Specific Accomplishments: Led development of $150M worth of technology development programs in support of F-22 development for U.S. Air Force. Transitioned critical enabling technologies to production in the areas of composite and titanium structures applications for the airframe along with advanced casting and forging technologies for engine (F119) applications. Successfully developed from concept to implementation a major, joint Department of the Air Force and Navy initiative, titled “Composites Affordability Initiative”, valued at $100 million.
