I started my career in the late 1990’s following a Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics (Mechanical and Electrical Engineering with a focus on control systems) from the University of Glamorgan. I have always held an intense interest in engineering and following graduation I worked for a range of automation technology manufacturers. I greatly enjoy working with people and I have always held positions in client facing roles. Right from the start, I specialised in control and automation, specifically high-speed motion control systems (servo and variable speed drives, programmable logic and motion controllers) and during my career I have worked with clients through the full life cycle of machinery design and implementation. This has included everything from developing initial concepts through to hardware installation and software commissioning. I have always been interested in renewable energy and the challenge of sustainable living so in 2006 I returned to the University of Glamorgan and undertook a Master’s degree in Renewable Energy and Resource Management. In my MSc Thesis I specialised in hydrogen energy storage systems and undertook detailed mathematical modelling (Matlab & Simulink) of the now constructed, Baglan Hydrogen Energy Centre. My current work is varied and has ranged from managing major national carbon management programmes through to major project development and investment. Throughout my career, like many professionals, I have accumulated a range of additional skills to compliment my engineering knowledge. In particular:• I have spent a lot of time managing programmes and projects and I am an accredited Project Manager with the Association of Project Management (APMP).• I have held positions with responsibility for business development working throughout the UK, Europe and Asia Pacific regions.I am also a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.I have the attitude to make the impossible possible and believe in being at work to make a difference.
